Triply

How Triply works

This whole page follows one real trip: four friends going to Da Lat for three days. Every step below is a screen you will actually see.

The four people

An creates the group, so An is the owner. An makes Nam the treasurer — the person holding the shared money. Lan and Binh are ordinary members.

1. An creates the group and invites everyone

An opens the app and names the group "Da Lat August". The app generates a six-character code and a QR code. An drops the code into the group chat; tapping the link or scanning the QR takes you straight in. No account, no password, no phone number.

Anyone asking to join has to be approved by An or Nam first. A stranger who finds the code still cannot get in.

2. Nam collects the kitty and logs each contribution

Everyone transfers 2,000,000₫ to Nam. Nam logs four contributions, one per person. The shared fund is now 8,000,000₫ and everyone sees that number on the Overview screen.

Nam is the treasurer, so what Nam records counts immediately. If Lan logs her own contribution instead, it sits as pending until An or Nam approves it.

3. Spending along the way — split only among those involved

Dinner costs 800,000₫ and all four eat: 200,000₫ each. The next day three of them take the cable car for 600,000₫ while Binh sleeps in — when logging it, they untick Binh, so only three people share it at 200,000₫ each and Binh pays nothing.

When the split does not divide evenly, the remainder goes one dong at a time to the first people in the list — the shares always add up to exactly the amount spent, never a dong off.

4. Lan logs a spend, An approves it

Lan pays 300,000₫ for a taxi out of her own pocket and logs it. Because Lan is an ordinary member, it shows up as pending — An and Nam get a push notification, open the app, see "Needs attention" and tap Approve. Only then does the taxi count.

The approver can also reject with a reason. A rejected entry does not vanish — it becomes disputed so the two people can talk it out before it is settled.

5. What happens when someone makes a mistake

Nam types 8,000,000₫ instead of 800,000₫. Nam cannot delete it — nobody can delete history in this app. Instead Nam records a reversing entry, or edits the original; either way the app keeps a trail of who changed what, when, and from which amount to which.

This is why the numbers in Triply can be trusted: nobody can quietly rewrite the books behind everyone else.

6. Who owes whom

The Overview screen answers one question: how much each person put in, how much they owe, and the difference. Your own row is highlighted and always first. The My bill tab goes deeper: every single entry, what it charged you, and a zero next to the ones you sat out.

The owner or treasurer can post the fund holder’s payment QR code right on the Overview — whoever owes money just scans it, no need to ask for bank details.

7. Ending the trip

Back home, money settled, An taps End trip. The books freeze: no more entries, edits, or renames — but everyone can still read the whole history. If something was missed, An can reopen the books within 7 days.

To clear it out entirely An taps Delete group: it disappears for everyone at once, An has 7 days to change their mind, and after that the server erases everything and the app cleans it off each phone.

What if there is no signal?

Just keep using it. Triply saves everything on your phone first, so in a cave, on a mountain pass, or out of data you can still log spending. When you are back online the app sends yours out and pulls in what everyone else recorded. The server only relays — every calculation runs on your own phone.

Who can do what

A few common questions

If I lose my phone, do I lose the ledger?

No. The ledger lives on every member’s phone and on the server. Reinstall, join again, and it is all there. The owner can also create a personal link that puts you back in your original seat with your history intact.

Can anyone else see our money?

The server stores group data so it can relay between phones, but it does not read the contents and there is no screen to browse them. No ads, no data selling. Details in the privacy policy.

What if someone in the group has no smartphone?

The owner or treasurer adds them by name. They still get their share and appear in the settlement like everyone else — they just cannot log anything themselves. If they install the app later, a personal link hands them that exact seat.

Does rounding lose money?

No. Triply works in whole dong, never decimals. The shares always add up to exactly what was spent, and total contributed minus total owed always equals the fund balance exactly.

Try it on one trip

Your next trip, four people, three days. Creating the group takes about ten seconds.

The app is on its way to the App Store and Google Play.
